The North East Link is a series of works constructing new lanes and roads through the north-eastern areas of Melbourne. The primary components of the project include:

  • A new six-lane tolled motorway connecting the end of the Metropolitan Ring Road in Greensborough to the Eastern Freeway in North Balwyn
  • Seven additional lanes built along the Eastern Freeway from Bulleen Road to Springvale Road
  • A dedicated busway from Hoddle Street to Doncaster Road

The North East Link Authority have also expressed serious interest in working to significantly improve walking and cycling connections throughout the project area.

Bicycle Network have become involved in the project.

Potential bicycle projects

North East Bicycle Corridor

This project could be the catalyst for implementing this important piece of strategic transport infrastructure following the rejection of the East West Link. The proposal involves a direct path built from the Chandler Highway to Alexandra Parade. There would be many significant benefits to such a project and BBUG is very keen to see this project implemented as part of the North East Link.

North Balwyn to Greensborough

The North East Link Authority have already announced new and upgraded pedestrian and cycling links from North Balwyn to Greensborough. Details have not been published to date.
