The Department of Transport has revised their updates on transport regulations to allow riders to continue to take standards-compliant e-bikes on trains.
Boroondara BUG is very happy with this outcome.
The new rules take effect on 21 December.
Note that all converted e-bikes will be banned from all trains in Victoria on this date.
You can take a e-bike (that is not converted to an e-bike) or e-scooter on metropolitan trains provided that you:
- Don’t board at the first door of the first carriage. This is a priority area for passengers with accessibility requirements.
- Make sure it doesn’t block doors or aisles.
- Avoid busy carriages and travelling during peak hours.
- Walk your bike or e-scooter on trains, platforms and through stations – only ride once you’ve left the station precinct.
- E-bikes and e-scooters must also be switched off and cannot be charged on board, on platforms or in station precincts.
